Debian/Ubuntu .deb packages?!
Hey,
why isn't there any 0.9.55 oder 0.9.56 .deb in the repositories and/or in the archive?!
Is Scott ill?
Does someone knows anything?

Here is how I make my own deb so that I can always have hot fresh apt-friendly wine:
Get the source, extract it, and (using the terminal) cd into the directory.
./configure --prefix=/usr
make depend
make
checkinstall --install=no
Checkinstall runs "make install" and intercepts everything that make install tries to do. Checkinstall can be hit and miss on making debs this way, but I have not had any trouble making the wine deb with it. It will ask for some info about what to call the package and then do it's thing. The final step in making the package is very slow, so be patient. The deb will have the dev stuff in it so you can remove both the older wine and wine-dev packages before using it. Use GDebi (or sudo dpkg -i yaddayadda as checkinstall explains at the end) to install the deb.
Also make (ha) sure that configure is satisfied before moving forward to make depend and make.
If anyone can think of a reason not to do things this way please scream real loud, but it works for me.

0.9.56 is the latest version, but as it says on the front page...but there isn't 0.9.56 o_0
So, it's taking a little longer than "a few days", but nothing to fret over. After all, it's only been a week.Binary packages are in the process of being built and it may take a few days for them to appear, but the source is available now.
However, I am waiting for a 0.9.56 deb before I install Wine again.
Debian/Ubuntu .deb packages?!
People are probably anxious because the last working package on Ubuntu
was 0.9.54.
The 0.9.55 package was built with the newer gcc (which is the default in
Hardy), and segfaults for most people if they try to run anything. As
far as I know, it was never fixed - the broken package is still in the
repos.
