Hello guys,

I install Starcraft (my favourite old game) perfectly (great work!), but when i go to multiplayer zone, the screen not work because it is freeze. It occurs when the game connect to "Battle.net servers".

I have a output from terminal and a screenshot for help:

$ wine --version
wine-0.9.46
This is an old version of Wine (ten versions old). Can you try this
with 0.9.56 after it is released for the version of Ubuntu and see if
this error has gone away?

See my previous post, I did with version 0.9.55 (probably you could not see it, while you write).

My apologies, but you were correct, I had not received your update
before my reply. Have you submitted a bug report at the Wine Bugzilla?
I highly recommend doing so. Please add the logging file as an attachment.

It appears that your X11 display cannot be switched from 32 bpp to 8 bpp
and this might be what is causing the system to crash. Also, I notice
that the requested display is 1.0.

Thanks James,

I report on bugzilla (my first time!)

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11707

I think I did everything that I ask and I will not forget any details.

I think that the initiative to create a forum for Wine has been very good idea.
I hope that this will help move the project forward as fast as the foam.

PD: You should sign up for your post so as not invited.

Your video drivers are improperly installed. Fix that before submitting bogus bug reports. Also check Application database before submitting any bugs!

STOP turning all user errors into bogus bugs! You are solely responsible for dozens of bogus bug reports! If you can't read that user already had new version and that it's video driver is broken then please no not reply at all!

I suspected this and stated so.

REALLY now. Dozens of bogus reports. I think you should go back and
read that I have only asked about six or seven folks to submit bug
reports. And I apologized that I had replied before this user had
posted the installation of a new release of Wine. Also, I stated that I
thought the video driver was broken, as I don't think folks run on
screen 1.0 much (see I can read and understand.)

The creation of many 'bogus' reports is better than missing ONE
important, factual report. However, I will look up the Applications
Database, when available, before giving such advice in the future.

Also, if you are going to FLAME someone, do it OFF THE LIST. In the
future, I will NOT BE SO NICE.

Any problem yet? Or still is a bogus bug?

A little search points to this still open bug 5253.
This bug is also linked to each Startcraft version listed in Application DB. Please check open bugs in AppDB first.

The only known workaround for this is to use hacky patch(es) from above mentioned bug.

Sorry about that. I'll try to use PM instead. Please in the future try to dig a bit dipper into the problem before sending people to bugzilla.

Developers don't need to deal with user problems. And perform the same research over and over again. If you think it's a real bug - get as much information as possible before directing user to bugzilla. This will help them file useful real bug reports. Remember that not everything is a bug. And there are lots of other options to solving problems that are outside the scope of bugzilla.

Bouncing users around from mail-list/forum to bugzilla and back doesn't help anyone.

I am of the opinion that the Applications Database and Bugzilla should
be more closely related and that a bug reported in Bugzilla should
automagically appear in the Applications Database entry for the
product. If there is no AppDb entry, the bug will be rejected, on
input, because there is no entry. This allows better searches for bugs,
howtos and workarounds. At the present time, you have to manually add
bugs to the Applications Database and some users and testers, myself
included, have forgot to do this or due to time constraints did not do it.
The only known workaround for this is to use hacky patch(es) from above mentioned bug.

Yuck! I HATE hacky patches and asking users to implement them. I hope
that someone is looking into fixing this in a sensible fashion from the
development side.

Please do.

I was not aware of this situation. I definitely will look further
before sending users to the bugzilla.
Developers don't need to deal with user problems.
Users are the REASON developers exist. Without them, all of us on this
project have no reason to exist. If you PM me, I can tell you what
happened to me recently when users decided to leave a product.
And perform the same research over and over again.
Now this is a real problem.
Bouncing users around from mail-list/forum to bugzilla and back doesn't help anyone.

And does not make a happy user.

Thank you for your suggestions.
