If we have to go through this crap on a daily basis, time to unhook the list
from the forum.

Cheers,

Ron.

No, that's wrong idea and it will not help to stop spam in the forum anyway.
Proper thing to do is to use additional protections from spam-robots such
as "Textual Confirmation" MOD (as has been suggested in "Has anyone tracked
down Bekkeypelet?" thread). This should stop frequent spam messages.

Did it occur to anyone to tell out forum-using friends about this
wonderful new invention called "a mailing list"?

Just a thought...

The mailing list itself has been spammed several times as well. Spam
is a simple fact of using the interwebs, even though it may clog the
tubes...

With a few PHP/html tweaks, however, it looks like we can reduce the
amount of spam.

The mailing list is easier and quicker to use, less bandwidth-hungry, and had
proved to be spam-proof.

It was too good to last, it was not broken, so someone had to fix it...

Cheers,

Ron.

I've never understood that. Spam is all slimy, shouldn't it
slip through the tubes easier than healthier content?

The forum is made to support BOTH. Yes, there are a few kinks to work
out (the spam, etc), but this will let those that prefer forums to use
them, while still maintaining the mailing list. And no, the mailing
list is NOT spam free, I've got quite a few spam from wine-users and
wine-devel. If you prefer mailing lists, great, use them. If not, use
the forum. Both work the same (and for that matter, I recently found
that mailing the mailing list will identify you by your userid if
you've registered on the forum...neat!).

P.S. Slimy => slippery yes, but also sticky, hence it flows the tubes
well, then sticks there and blocks lolcats from reaching my computer
:-(.

You are right. Nevertheless, many people strongly prefer forums, for
a yet unknown reason.

Offering these people their preferred way of communication is a good
idea and the spam issue should be solvable. I'd like to allow the
inventor of this list <-> forum coupling a few days to review the thing.

BTW., more admins for the forum won't help as a mail sent out to the
list can't be taken back.
