Capture one 22 page fault after successful install

Post by eguess74 »

Hello,

I'm trying to make linux my daily driver as many of other users and Capture one is one of the two programs that are blocking me from moving completely off Windows. I know that there has been some attempts to run it under wine that were not successful, but in Wine DB the version 15 (Capture one 22) has been successfully installed and executed, but with some lagging performance. The problem i have is that i can't seem to run it no matter what i try - i'd like to see it run so that i can understand if the performance will be as bad as the other person experienced.
I tried to run it with bottles and wine directly on windows 10 guest. I tried two different ways:
1. Install only mono as a dependency and rely on win10 image to have the rest. This way seems to be working best as at least i can install the software, but it core-dumps on execution
2. tried to install d3dcompiler_47 and tried to installed dotnet472. In this case I can't get .net installed explicitly as it says that this framework version is already installed, so it stops at 4.6.1, but when i try to install capture one - it is complaining that there is NO 4.7.2 present and refuses to install altogether.

wine version: wine-7.6
Linux: GarudaLinux - KDE

You might wanna try disabling mountmgr.sys (and/or wbemprox:)

WINEDLLOVERRIDES=mountmgr.sys=d wine CaptureOne.exe

Does that help anything?

Yes, it did help. I was able to advance as I was able to see the splash and went through the license activation, but then it crashed again. That's wine console output below. I'm
not sure how to get the crash report content - it tries to show it it me via notepad but UI glitches...

Hi, I opened bugreport here:https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-b ... 73453.html

So you might wanna try 'winetricks -q dotnet48 arial d3dcompiler_47'

I think that should at least get you into the main program, dunno if it works further ;)

Hi, thank you!

I actually tried dotnet48, but it failed to start, let me try with your combo and also with the mountmgr disabled - may be that will be the winning combo;)

It started with your latest suggested configuration options : winetricks + mountmgr disabled! BUT on the first launch it said that it needs to install wine gecko package, whic i think it did and then unfortunately it can't import any image and it crashed (at least now i could pull actual crash logs):

Does it crash when you import an image? I`m not really familiar with this software, and the "import" button is greyed out when i try. Is that what you get as well?

Sees like it is having major problems with UI - graphical content is not loading properly. for example the tool navigation tool bar is black on the left, there should be tabs - and they are working if i'm clicking on the areas - there are just not visible.
Screenshot_26.png
i got this one when tried to add a folder to catalog that error appeared when it tried to read the images from folder

The problems with the UI is a known problem I guess; think it`s https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45277

I tried in wine-gecustom (glorious eggroll)and then it looks like in the picture, and looks ok I think?
I was actually also able to import a picture in one of the first screens. As I said, i`m not really familiar with the program so you`d have to test yourself? ( Note , i did 'winetricks -q --force dotnet48 arial d3dcompiler_47' before installing/starting Capture one

the picture looks right.

Could you please expand on what to do with

Code: Select all

Is that a different wine runner package that requires all of the libs reinstalled?
This seems to be very close to a working version - so if we could nail it - capture one linux community would be pretty happy i guess. There are more than 200 "+1" on capture one forum for linux version in just one thread;)

I don`t know for 100% but I don`t think so. I just downloaded (the compressed release file) from https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom and then uncompressed in for example home directory, and then ran directly "out of the tree":

Code: Select all

WINEDLLOVERRIDES=wbemprox=d  ~/lutris-GE-Proton7-6-x86_64/bin/wine CaptureOne.exe
No need to install this wine package.

BTW, I disabled wbemprox.dll instead of mountmgr.sys to work around the initial crash. I don`t know if that will cause followup bugs, just play a bit with it I1d say.

So your latest suggestion does provide a result! the startup string i used was the one you suggested with wbemprox disabled:

Code: Select all

env WINEPREFIX="/home/eugene/.wine" WINEDLLOVERRIDES=wbemprox=d ~/wine_ge/lutris-GE-Proton7-9-x86_64/bin/wine C:\\Program\ Files\\Capture\ One\\Capture\ One\ 22\\CaptureOne.exe
the application loaded all the controls and i was able to add picture to the catalog, it also was able to generate previews.
Screenshot_33.png
BUT, unfortunately that's where the good stuff ends:(
there are some glitches in the ui and so on with resizing, but most importantly it can't finish loading the picture into edit screen. There is some background activity going on indicated by the spinning small icon by the top center panel. The system doesn't show what are those activities in progress window. This renders all the application unusable as the picture cannot be fully loaded, then the tools on the left side are not working - so no editing can be done....
Uh-oh....

Pity that it doesn`t work then.

Is there any interesting consoleoutput while this happens?

sometimes it also hangs without any interesting output in the log. So in general this is not usable under wine. The app itself works very well under windows, so i wouldn't blame it on the app per se. I hope some of this info helps
