Installing newer version of wine

Post by IcyKiwi »

So I installed the 6.0.1 version of wine (I was using 5.0 before) but once I ran the "configure" command nothing happened. Before this I made sure I had the newest version of Bison which took me a while to install since I'm not good at command line and don't really get what it means half the time I'm just following tutorials. I tried to run .exe files but wine doesn't show up as an option to run them with. Is there another thing I need to do before I can use wine? I included a photo of the wine folder I installed and the box that's highlighted is the one I ran to install wine.

Perhaps it is easier to use the ready-made packages from @Gcenx instead of compiling Wine yourself.

My prebuilt packages only target macOS High Sierra and later.

I run a Macports overlay macports-wine, this can be used to install wine-stable/devel/staging on OSX 10.8 and later.

The selected wine package will be compiled from source along with anything that’s not prebuilt by macports.
