nativ DLL

Post by sibare »

Hello,

It is said, that sometimes it is necessary to copy a windows original DLL-file to "~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32" and then set it to "native" in winecfg.

I have now done the following:
MS Office word 2003 installed. At
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... n&iId=2735
I found this: "To get the thesaurus to work, set riched20.dll to (native) in winecfg."

I did that and then thesaurus worked in Word. But I'm totally confused now. I thought you first had to copy the original riched20.dll from windows to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 for this to work. But I didn't do that and so I expected that it would not work. How can it use the nativ dll, when it does not have it?

My question is: Why does it work now nevertheless?

Thank you.

Just read what’s wrote again, it’s explained that the install provides its own version of riched20.dll wine to needs to know to use that over its own version.

You are right. I read the appdb notes again and it is said there:
"Office 2003 installs its own version of richedit in a private directory, ... "
Thank you.
