How to uninstall preinstalled Internet Explorer from wine

Post by timbuck2 » Sun Dec 30, 2018 2:29 pm

Trying to install a newer IE from setup package but the wine-gecko (IE) is blocking saying newer version already installed. How can I disable the wine-gecko to allow the installer to complete?

Linux Lite 4.2 with wine-stable 3.0-1ubuntu1.

Trying to install newer IE because I have a program (Fluenz) complaining no network is set up and I read installing a true IE setup package may install some networking libraries that could make my app work. Thanks for any help.

You can remove Wine Gecko in the Wine Control Panel -> Add/ Remove Programs

Code: Select all

wine control
# and/ or
wine64 control

Winetricks handles removing the bundled gecko when installing ie6.

I have not tested it in years but I don’t remember but anything above ie6 working.

Ok thanks. I did that and had 2 Wine Gecko (64-bit) entries for some reason. I could remove 1 of them, but the other won't remove.

When I try to install IE7 or IE8 it says "Setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer has been detected on this computer"

IE9 and IE10 won install because they need updates that microsoft has removed from downloading.

Any ideas how to wipe the Internet Explorer from my wine installation?

microsoft removed the download for IE6 so winetricks doesn't work anymore. I have IE6 downloaded but have no way for winetricks to use it instead of the hardcoded download link.

ie8 works with winetricks. Everything above doesn't.

Doesn't seem to work on a 64 bit arch. Will try to make a separate 32bit container and see if that works. Thanks for the information.

Winetricks has used internet archive for ie6 since 2017 if that’s not longer working you could open an issue on GitHub that’s what I did a while back to fix corefonts.

And recently had cnc_ddraw added to winetricks from an issue.
