Wine 64 better back to 32 for me ?

Post by Potter »

Hi,

Wine Doc states in § 2.6:
Both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows applications (should) work with it; however, there are still many bug
Well, I have 64 bit wine on Linux Debian. And it looks like I am going to use 32-Software with it only. How to interpret the sentence above -
is it possible that the 32bit portion of 64bit wine installation is worse than the 32bit-wine-version only ?
If so, will a change to 32bit-only-wine harm my user environment (prefixes, winecfg) ?

Thank You

I'm not sure about the first question, so I leave it to someone with more Wine knowledge.

Yes, you can't change an existing Wine Prefix from 64-bit to 32-bit. You have to create a new prefix.

The 32 bit portion of a 64 bit Wine installation is 32 bit Wine. The bugs referred to in the docs are from running 32 bit apps in a 64 bit wineprefix; the workaround for those bugs is to create a 32 bit wineprefix (WINEARCH=win32).

Thank You, both. 32bit prefix is running. Everything remains as is - I do enjoy that! :D
