Hi.
Yesterday I installed a Go client (https://www.foxwq.com/). It should be just a program as all the others.
Today, I went to my home documents folder, and noticed a "foxwq" folder with some files in it.
My question now is.. how is it possible that a program installed with wine has access to real user folder? Should a program permission just be limited to the ".wine" folder?
I mean, I was convinced that running a program with wine was like with a VM, so keeping it isolated from the rest of the system. How can I be sure now, as the program is not opensource, that it didn't get any of my file from my PC?
Thanks in advance
Programs permission

I don't know where you got that idea. https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#How_good_is ... ws_apps.3Fpisellino wrote:I mean, I was convinced that running a program with wine was like with a VM, so keeping it isolated from the rest of the system.
You can't. https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#Is_Wine_mal ... patible.3FHow can I be sure now, as the program is not opensource, that it didn't get any of my file from my PC?
Re: Programs permission
Oh boy. I really didn't know. I should have read the FAQ.
I now uninstalled the program but.. I'm a bit worried. As far as I know, as it runs with same user privileges it shouldn't have changed any system folder. But.. What do you suggest? Maybe check if it did some particular internet requests in the system log?

Re: Programs permission
You could run a virus check with a native antivirus program, such as ClamAV. And in the future, don't install programs from sources you don't trust.
Re: Programs permission
But.. How could a windows malware run on a linux machine? It seems impossible to me
Re: Programs permission
The same way any Windows app can run on Linux.pisellino wrote:But.. How could a windows malware run on a linux machine? It seems impossible to me
