wine-gecko problem

Post by jd63 »

I using wine 1.8.7 on a Debian stable (Stretch) distro and am trying to test a chm file (created on Linux) using the "hh" command. The help window opens ok but I got the error message :
Could not load wine-gecko. HTML rendering will be disabled.
err:mshtml:HTMLDocument_Create Failed to init Gecko, returning CLASS_E_CLASSNOTAVAILABLE
As per the instructions given on https://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko, I downloaded the msi package and put it in /usr/share/wine/gecko (I had to create the gecko folder first), but I'm still getting the same error message. I wasn't sure which version I needed for my version of wine so I tried both 2.44 and 2.47, but no luck.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

According to the chart in the wiki, 2.40 is the version needed for wine-1.7.50 - wine-1.9.2. If your system is 64 bit, make sure you download both the 32 and 64 bit packages.
