windbind

Post by eipapp »

How do you install windbind in Wine ?
Trying to install Excel 2010 but it never completes the installation and I read that you need to have windbind installed in order for Excel to install.

Thanks,
Bruce

You don't install it in Wine. It is a dependency of Wine, and needs to be installed in the host system.

Urmmm (cough).
I think you mean the native Linux package: winbind.

I much appreciate the link to windbind, however, every link I select comes back with a 404 error.
Any other suggestions for a download site ?

Thanks much,
Bruce

Install it through your distro's package manager. Most distros will have it in their main repository.

Bruce,

The package name is: w i n b i n d - as I've previously stated!!

You haven't even stated what OS you are using - so I just guessed it had to be Ubuntu...

But whatever distribution it is you would want to install the package with your Linux package manager - not from some website...
E.g. for Ubuntu:

Code: Select all

apt-get install winbind
Not being a mind reader I'm not able to specify the exact package install command for any other OS / Linux distribution - that you might or might not be running?!

Subtle hint - you're asking for help online... So the "Internet person" helping you isn't sitting beside you... You really need to supply more information in future!!

Your right, of course, I really didn't give you much to go on, my apologizes.
Linux Mint 18.3 on a 23" HP desktop.
As to the typo, I'm recovering from rotator cuff surgery so I'm doing this
with one hand and not very well at that.

Thanks again for your help,
Bruce
