"Please configure the application to use double buffering"

"Please configure the application to use double buffering (1 back buffer) if possible."

I get this output when running a program using WINE from the command line and I believe it is the cause for my screen tearing problems. I've looked around but cannot find how you enable double buffering. Any ideas where this setting may be?
