wine reboots computer

Post by Relay »

hi, i am runing latest wine in a FC9 x64 machine and when i run anytihng in wine computer just reboots...I already tested ram with memtest and its fine, no gpu or cpu high temps, glxgears works fine arround 3.5k fps.
Wonder if its some problem between wine and the nvidia driver under x64, or some hardware problem.

Hi!
Just to be sure: aren't you trying to run wine as root ?
You can check, whether the machine also reboots on an open source "nv" driver instead of the proprietary Nvidia one. If not, it's a driver issue.

Even running as root wine cannot reboot a computer.

Computer rebooting is a sign of a driver or X11 problem somewhere.

glxgears really not a test. Wine is any feature defect in the X11 or opengl wine normally finds it.

FC9 does have a lot of prototype patches in its kernel and it X11 server. So running wine on it is really russian rollete.

Hi!
Just FYI, it can, under certain circumstances. We had such a case here in the
past. An application in wine was scanning the entire filesystem (through Z:
drive) and it activated the watchdog device file occassionally, without further
maintaining accesses to it, so the kernel rebooted the system because of the
failed software watchdog.
Running the app as user would prevent to access the watchdog file, so the
system would stay stable.
