Night Owl View

Post by AJO4 »

Trouble executing Night Owl View after what appeared to be a successful installation.

Getting several error messages when attempting to load, the most significant are in the general form:

Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library
Debug Assertion Failed!
Program: ...\Nightowl View.exe
File: e:\svnew\src\app\win32\svmain\dsvpublicdata\db\adorecordset.cpp

First, I do not have an e: drive assigned to any path, there were no installation options to select other drives, and I cannot find these subdirs (svnew, svmain, etc.) anywhere below the root.

I have installed some extra packages which seemed obvious, but nothing seems to help - it still looks for the e: drive, which does not exist in the environment. Any help is appreciated.

Wine version? If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. If the problem is present in 1.9.9, post terminal output. https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#How_can_I_g ... tput.29.3F

Thanks for your quick response, dimesio. My version is 1.6.2, which was listed as the most current stable a week or so ago. I will try 1.9.9 and see what I get.

Upgraded to 1.9.9 and got the same set of error messages. Please find attached the console log. Also loaded twice with "wine start" and got basically the same output (perhaps different hex addresses), but feel free to request those as well.

There's nothing obvious in the terminal output. Did you get Wine's crash dialog at the end? If so, use it to capture the backtrace and post that.

Does this app have a legal, free download?

No Wine crash dialog. If I click the "ignore" buttons each time (5 altogether) I get the debug assertion failures (and just "OK" on the two other unreadable messages), the program does load. When I add my DVR in the settings (although somewhat difficult because the context menus do not appear properly) it seems to establish a connection on my LAN, but the video streams from my cameras do not appear. So even though it does not crash, and closes gracefully at my command, it appears that the load errors could indicate why it is not working correctly.

Yes, the app has a legal and free download:

https://ferrismarketing.app.box.com/s/y ... q28nf7s3rp

which is found at:

https://nightowlsp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us ... e-T-Series

under "PC Software Downloads" toward the middle of the page; however it will probably only show video for someone who has a Night Owl brand DVR attached to their LAN (i.e. doubt it would work with other brands of DVRs).

Still wondering where the e:\unknown\path came from. Any ideas?
