FIFA 08

Hi all!

I've been trying to run this game but I couldn't. I was able to install it, but when trying to run, Wine won't accept the crack. Without it, it doesn't even start.

I read on some other forums that the key was to install it with wine and then make it run with CEDEGA by copy everything into a cedega folder. I did that also but I don't know what else I can do to make it run. I think the problem is that it uses some extra Macromedia applications, I don't know. never the less, I copied not only the "program files" directory on .wine to cedega but also the complete windows folder, in case it needed the extra things the game installs.

As you see, I've been doing many things to make it run. The original intention was to run PES6, but there is a problem with the crack I think... some missing files that are not missing! ...but the game is asking for them.

OK, that's the situation. Does anybody has FIFA08 (or PES6) running under wine or CEDEGA?

What do you mean by "Wine wont accept the crack"? Do you mean you're trying to use a cracked exe because the game needs to see the CD in the CDROM or are you trying to play a pirated version, etc?

The wine appdb has the following entries for the game...

What version of wine are you using? It looks like the 1.0 english version of the retail game worked in 0.9.52, according to the latest entry.

Chad,

I mean that I'm using a cracked exe because the game keeps asking for the CD. I already saw those posts in the appdb but I don't know if they are playing with the original CD (for sure...) I'm not :oops:

I'm using the last verison of wine. Is there any chance to go back to previous versions?
(Sorry if it's a basic wuestion, I'm 1 week old with linux. hehe)

One thing to try would be to go into the drives section of winecfg and set your CD drive from type hard disk to type cdrom (You can do this by highlighting that drive and going to advanced). After making that change switch back to the normal exe and see if it fires up.

I changed the CD drive to cdrom type and something happened... Wine did something changing the resolution for the screen to 800x600 and then exited. No luck to get FIFA08 running. I haven't tested other versions of wine already... any other suggestion? any idea about my original question about working with cedega after installing on wine?

If you run the game from the console, what kind of wine output do you get when the game exits after it changes your screen resolution?

Another thing to test would be to go to the graphics tab in winecfg and check the "Emulate a Virtual Desktop" and set it to 800x600 resolution and see if the game fires up.

It may be that the game is attempting to start in a video mode determined by xorg.conf settings but is unable to find anything reasonable. If at all possible see if there is an ini file in the FIFA program directory that allows you to start it in windowed mode, or maybe theres a switch you can start the main executable with that allows it to start in windowed mode instead of full screen.

Well here we go again...

I ran the game from the console and under an 800x600 window. It seems to star but then... crash!. As i said, I'm new to all this stuff so I really don't know how to "read" :shock: an error in the log. If some one can help... THANKS A LOT! :wink:

If you go into winecfg and check the about tab, what version does it say you're running? Just out of curiousity I downloaded the demo and was able to install and play it without any major issues in a clean .wine directory (wine 0.9.57).

The same version as you have. 0.9.57. Do you mean that maybe I have a problem with the ISO file...? I should try to download the demo and see what's up.
