Installation of Age Of Empires 3

Post by danielakkerman »

Hello!
For the past couple of days I have been trying to install AOE3 on My Debian Etch Machine.
When no actual setup process is required or "installation defacto " Wine functions flawlessly.
Here's the deal:
The process commences perfectly.
The "installShield" Loads nicely, with no trouble.
But When I am asked to insert the second CD(I had purchased a 3-Disk bundle), I get an error from Debian Claiming the drive is in use(reasonable isn't it?), and subsequently I can't remove the disk, at least until I close the Installation procedure.
Now, I've tried, whilst the setup had been asking for the next disk, to unmount the drive via: "

Code: Select all

umount -l /dev/hdc
"
That does work.(I am able to eject).
But after the insertion of the second CD, I see that it's "mount-point" is blank!
No matter how hard I attempt, regardless of the paths I endeavored to take; No route I ventured into worked!
What should I do?
Thank you,
Thanks Again,
Daniel

I need to work this out myself one of these days. One post I read said
to mount and unmount the CDs as root making sure your fstab allows
root to mount and users to read. Maybe give that a try?

Good luck and let us know what works!

Cheers,
Mark

Try instead
wine eject

Hi,
I'd like to start by thanking you for your quick responses.
I was finally able to resolve the problem by copying the CDs to my HD.
And it worked!
However, now a new problem cropped-up.
After launching the game, with the "splash-screen" showing, my screen turns black for a few seconds, then it is resized, then it returns to the desktop, with an error saying:
"Age of Empires III has encountered an error and needs to be closed..."
And so on and so fourth.
What should I do next?
Thank you so much again,
Thank you,
Daniel
P.S
I've also been getting these errors:

Code: Select all

err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7bc90684 "loader.c: loader_section" wait timed out in thread 0039, blocked by 0033, retrying (60 sec)

At last!
It's working.
Thanks again for all your help.
All I had to do apparently was to install version 0.9.53.
And that's it!
Thanks again,
Daniel

Then there is a bug in wine, as something has regressed. Please run a
regression test:
http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

And file a bug at http://bugs.winehq.org (check for dupes first).
