Wine 0.9.56 Photoshop CS activation

Post by stephan »

Hi Wine-Users,

currently I sucessfully installed "Photoshop CS" with Wine 0.9.56, but I am not able to finish the activation.

A error-window appears:

Image

Translated:

"Error while starting the activationprocess.
Restart your computer and close all applications before you start the activationprocess again."

After that PSCS quits.

I dont have any Windows on my machine and i won't install it with VMWare, hope it will be a "linux/wine-native-solution" possible.

thanks a lot,
stephan

Where did you get your copy of Wine-0.9.56?
How did you install Photoshop?

Does the problem persist after doing
mv ~/.wine ~/.wine.bak
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks vcrun6 corefonts
and reinstalling Photoshop?

First at all I updated my repository from Ubuntu 7.10 (gutsy) to get the latest version from winhq.
After that I startet "setup.exe" from the cd and the installation was fine.

Note:
I have "Photoshop CS Update" and I had to install Photoshop 6 before, beacause remounting and detecting the PS6-CD during the installation of CS to validate my PS6-CD was not possible.

I did not try this yet, but I will after work. Thanks for that hint.
What is "winetricks"; VB-runtimes?

I believe "wine eject" will work. We should add a way to do that from
the menu...
wget http://kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks vcrun6 corefonts

winetricks is a trivial script that knows how to get just
many Microsoft redistributable libraries and fonts.
It gets them straight from Microsoft, so it's safer than grabbing
them from some random site. It also has a handy
but ugly GUI; run it without arguments to see that.

hmm i got following error:

Code: Select all

stephan@giant:~$ sh winetricks vcrun6
fixme:spoolsv:serv_main (0 (nil))
err:advapi:service_get_status service protocol error - failed to read pipe r = 0 count = 0!
Executing cabextract /home/stephan/.winetrickscache/vcredist.exe
winetricks: 956: cabextract: not found
Note: command 'cabextract /home/stephan/.winetrickscache/vcredist.exe' returned status 127. Aborting.
stephan@giant:~$
I also tried "wine iexplore http://www.winehq.org". The "gecko-engine-setup" starts correctly.

My PSCS still quits, I don't have time to reinstall PSCS now with renaming the ".wine" folder, but I will give you feedback when it's done. ;)

thanks for your help so far,
Stephan

That means you need to install cabextract. If you're on Ubuntu, do
sudo apt-get install cabextract

BTW, Never, ever, ever run wine as root.

Now it works!! :D 8)

I renamend the folders ".wine" and ".winetrickscache" and I first reinstalled wintricks with

Code: Select all

sh winetricks vcrun6 corefonts (package "cabextract" required!)

In order to avoid other issues I installed the gecko-engine too with:

Code: Select all

wine iexplore http://www.google.com
After that I reinstalled Photoshop CS and the activation worked fine. ;)

thanks for your help,

Great! (Although renaming .winetrickscache was probably overkill.)
sh winetricks vcrun6 corefonts (package "cabextract" required!)

You can do both steps in one swoop with

sh winetricks vcrun6 corefonts gecko

This is nice because you only have to download gecko once.

*noticed*

Performance Issues (I still have configured the cachefiles in the optionsmenu):

- with an opened filebrowser, it takes a very long time to get a contextmenu with a rightclick (eg. to delete files).

- also could be the overall perfomance with opended images a bit better, during selecting brushes or other tools I recognized the same

Graphical issues:

- minimized windows won't correctly shown in the left bottom corner and can not be maximised again (they are partial hidden)

My System:

P4 3 GHz
1,5 GB Dual-Channel RAM
SCSI-UW HDDs (hdparm is running)
ATi Radeon 9700 Pro (fglrx driver from ati.com is running, GL-Desktop is deactivated)

It's quick for me.

If you can measure that (e.g. "when I boot to windows, it takes 7 seconds
to do X with this particular image at this URL, but in Linux, it takes
13 seconds")
maybe we can reproduce it and fix it.

Works fine for me. What window manager are you using?
Can you send a screenshot? How are you trying to maximize them?
