Installation asks for IE4 or higher

Post by Giorgio »

I'm trying to install Circuit Design Suite vers.10, a National Instruments electronic CAD, in WinE 0.9.56 and Mandriva 2008.0.
I start installation wizard and almost immediately it asks for Internet Explorer 4 or higher.
In FAQ I found http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-69ca5e8 ... 521c2a4843 regarding my problem and I follow instructions:
1)in terminal I ran “ wine iexplore http://www.winehq.org” that opens a new window with IE6 showing Wine home page
2)I edit registry following (at least I tried) indications in http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys

No way to go further.

I'm not really sure I edit in a correct way the registry, is there a script that can do it for me ?

What else can I do ?

Unfortunately it don't help.
I tried this before finding FAQ but IES4 install IE out of Wine, in home directory and (I think) Wine don't "see" this Internet Explorer.

Not sure if it will help, try:

Code: Select all

wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks fakeie6

I just reproduced this with the free trial download.
'winetricks fakeie6' doesn't help.
It seems to be an msi problem; see
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8895

I don't know if there's an easy workaround, sorry.

Many thanks to both of you.

Dan: I read the bug but it isn't so clear to me. The only thing I understand is that there is no way to install, at least for the moment.
Is it correct ?

Ies4linux uses a custom wineprefix, so wine won't see it unless you don't set
WINEPREFIX to ~/.ies4linux

You should try to install ies4linux, and then launch your application with
WINEPREFIX="/home/your_user_name/.ies4linux" wine yourapp.exe

None that I know of. I have no idea why the install is
failing. The "you need ie4" message is just a symptom
of an inner breakage.
