Support "Actually, Wine is sometimes faster"

Post by Garro »

Can you please help me to support this claim?
I think it would be very nice to make the claim on the wiki a link to a page that support the claim.
Thank you

Browse through the AppDB; there are test reports that mention it. The most recent one I've seen is https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=34056.

From my personal experience I can tell you that encoding video is faster in Wine than in Windows.

It is very difficult to look for such test results.
I would suggest to post as replies to this topic examples that prove the claim as you encounter them so that the post itself could be used to support the statement, in order to avoid that someone who is not able to find any software that runs faster could think that it is false or just a theoretical situation.

You're free to do that if you want; I have better things to do with my time. I doubt anyone is actively looking for random apps/games that run faster in Wine; people are normally only interested in how well the specific apps/games they want or need work in Wine, and it's easy enough to look that up in the AppDB.

You can take a look at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjexgR ... 0uNk2pEwVg – there's benchmarks comparing native, wine, wine-staging and wine-gaming-nine (Gallium 9) benchmarks, or author's blog at https://manerosss.wordpress.com/ – keep in mind though, that Gallium Nine wine flavour is not supported in WineHQ and doesn't work with Intel cards or proprietary Nvidia drivers (but offers higher significantly performance for AMD cards with open source drivers).
