Re: do the microsoft dll's act as spyware?

https://www.infoq.com/news/2016/06/visual-cpp-telemetry/ Are you talking about this telemetry automatcially inserted by VS2015? Obviously MS will add more and more telemetry in the future, not only in Windows, Edge, Cortana, Office, etc, but also in its compilers and C# runtimes. Stay with older MS ...

Can you run wine and Quicken in a terminal and show us the output? If there aren't any obvious error messages, please file a bug report.

Re: Some apps not working as portable; only installed

Well, the strategy of the Pale Moon and Waterfox developers is to look at the patches of the Firefox project and incorporate useful changes into their project. Especially the security fixes are scrutinously looked at and integrated when they are relevant. So you can assume, that you are roughly gett...

Yes, sorry. I'm quite sure, that the post mentioning 4.9 working again wasn't there at the time I started writing my post. Otoh I was working on something else at the same time, maybe I overlooked it or should have updated the browser tab. Anyways, no offense intended, filing bug reports is wine's s...

Did you file a bug report? The issue won't be fixed, if the wine devs don't know about it.

Can you show us the console output? How exactly did you install mdac27? Maybe it's an issue with missing libraries (32/64bit)?

Re: Guild Wars 2 (Trading Post)

It's ok, if it works for you with plain wine. Still I think, that you should file a bug report for wine-staging, here at https://bugs.winehq.org/ (wine and wine-staging share their bugs).

Re: Control Panel for USB-Soundcard (Soundcraft notepad 12fx

Wine doesn't support Windows hardware drivers. Your tool probably tries to access the hardware in similar hardware-related way. Depending on how that access would be done it may be an issue that may easily be fixed or may only be solved, if wine would support Windows drivers, which may not happen in...

Re: Wine conflict with clipman and copy/paste

Please run wine and your application in terminal, do some copy-paste operations (until it crashes), post the output here (use -tags, if it's long). If there's no obvious error message, there's probably not much we can do for you. You could file a bug report. I don't know how much priority xfce-speci...

Re: Ubuntu/Wine....winsock cannot connect

There are some winetricks options related to sockets, etc. Maybe try "winetricks winhttp", "winetricks wininet". You could set the Windows version in winecfg to e.g. "Windows XP" or earlier. Imho it would be useful, if you could create a little sample application to dem...

Re: Lots of games broken in Wine 4.6

File bug reports for the main issues, one for blank screen, one for missing textures, mention the most popular game title(s), post terminal output. There's an ongoing effort to use Vulkan as a backend for wine's D3D9 implementation, i.e. use Vulkan as graphics driver, so I'd assume that you (and oth...

Hi, this is basically a user2user-forum, so not many people here will be able to help. You could try to ask very politely on the wine-devel list or #winehq IRC. Or file a bug report to get into contact with wine developers, though an expected lack of efficiency probably won't justify a bug report. k...

What exactly are you trying to do? Is that application installed in linux/wine or is it on a Windows partition? If you want to run an application in wine, you should install it in wine/linux. It is absolutely not recommended to run Applications from a windows partition in wine, this can mess up the ...

Re: Pokemon trading card game online crashes

Yes, but the game seemed to work before. Either it suddenly switched from DX9 to DX11, or it has been supporting both DX9 and DX11 for some time. If the latter is true and wine advertises some DX11 functions without the neccessary hardware, then this might be considered a shortcoming in wine. Not su...
