Help for new comers to get started with Wine debugging
Hello everyone, I'm a long time Wine user and a C programmer. I use Wine mostly to run Win16 games designed for Windows 3.1 and Win32 games designed for Windows 95/98. I often feel helpless when a game I want to run crashes and I want to contribute to Wine to implement some unimplemented function (w...

Is there a proper way to benchmark Wine?
Hello,
I've always been wondering if there's a way to benchmark wine, like running a list of platinum/gold rated games that have a built-in benchmark option.

Theme Park World (aka Sim Theme Park) crashed on Wine 1.7.47
Hello, I've been playing Theme Park World on Wine 1.7.47 on ArchLinux x86_64 with the Linux kernel 4.0.7-2. The game was installed on a clean win32 prefix. All of a sudden, the game crashed and I've lost all of my progress. I don't know if it's the fault of wine or if the game is just bugged. Theref...

Is the search tool broken?
Hello,
I don't know if it's just me or everyone, but the search bar on the website doesn't work anymore.
It just redirect me to an empty page, whatever browser I use.

Re: Serious wineboot.exe bug on Wine 1.7.19
This means the Neverhood uses 16bit code at some point, could be a DLL. To allow execution of 16bit code on the GNU/Linux kernel, you have to execute the following command as root: echo 1 > /proc/sys/abi/ldt16 I don't recall in which version of the kernel this fix has been introduced, but it works a...

Re: What is this "CSMT patchset" thing?
I read this is optimized for ATI and nVidia GPU. Will Intel HD Graphics be able to benefit from it?

What is this "CSMT patchset" thing?
Hello, I heard a lot about a "CSMT patchset" for Wine. Apparently it dramatically improves performances for video games. I was wondering if it was a patch made by someone outside of the Wine development team or code that is yet to be part of Wine or code that is already part of Wine. Best ...

Re: What's the future of win16 compatibility on 64bit GNU/Li
lunavorax really It is possible due to it being a secuirty flaw that ubuntu backported the patch before it stable(ubuntu has that horible habit). But we have not had any broken reports. If they have back-ported the patch it would be possible to request Ubuntu include the work around. I'm using Arch...

Re: What's the future of win16 compatibility on 64bit GNU/Li
Well if a kernel update breaks my wine games from the windows 98 era i will stay on any pre 3.15 for a long time! This is not that easy, I installed GNU/Linux LTS 3.10.40 hoping that it would fix the issue, but I still have the same error. Since Wine is available for FreeBSD and NetBSD, I'll try th...

Re: What's the future of win16 compatibility on 64bit GNU/Li
Thank you for your answer.
That's really a shame. Mostly because a lot of game installer are win16 binaries, and extracting the .CAB files are often not enough.
Most generally, I realise how much win16 .EXE I have laying around that I thought were win32.

What's the future of win16 compatibility on 64bit GNU/Linux?
Hello, Some Wine user informed me that the reason why win16 binaries doesn't work anymore on GNU/Linux is because of a recent kernel change that ban execution of 16bit code on 64bit CPUs. According to https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/4/11/542 , I'm not sure if I understand everything correctly, but it see...

Re: Serious wineboot.exe bug on Wine 1.7.19
Indeed, there was a bug in the Wine package for ArchLinux but it got corrected. Now, the only problem I have is that no win16 executable will run. Someone already told me that it had something to do with the kernel, and you proved it right. Now I have absolutely no idea what the future of win16 bina...

Serious wineboot.exe bug on Wine 1.7.19
Hello, I'm running Wine 1.7.19 on ArchLinux x86_64. I'm also a super maintainer for the video game Mob Rule . While this game is supposed to be Platinum, I was surprised to see it retrograde to Garbage because the installer doens't work any longer. Normally, when launching the installer, wine will o...

Since Wine 1.5.24 is available for ArchLinux x86_64. I've tried again frow scratch to install and play Theme Park World. The same bug happens at the same time. I'm posting here the output of STDERR. Note that the video game behave differently whenever I use the FLOSS ATI drivers or not (on ArchLinux...

Hello, I'm pushing this post a bit up because the answer to make Theme Park World (SimTheme Park) work doesn't seems that far since the game works flawlessly when slowed down a lot. Re: ThTheme Park World (aka: Sim Theme Park)
I've spent around 3hours on #winehq (with the very kind help of a user named focht) to find the problem. First of all, in order to fix the Safedisk issue, the following solution has been found: * Make a clean win32 prefix * Setting mode to "Windows 2000" * Verify (and set manually if not) ...

Hello, I've been trying to run TPW under Wine for a long time. So far here's what I've managed to do under Wine 1.5.23 running on ArchLinux x86_64. Starting with a vanilla Wine installation: 1/ Installing the game from disk. 2/ Partching the game to v2.0 using the official patch (TPPatchTwoEUROAMER2...
