Is there a topic discussion forum for Wine anywhere on the Internet?
If not, then I think there is a place for one on this website.

Re: C&C Generals Reports a DirectX 8.1 Error as of Wine 7.01
OK, it worked, thanks! In addition to jkfloris's advice, adding an options.ini, and deleting dgbhelp.dll, I can finally get C&C Generals and Zero Hour to work in time for Christmas! If that still doesn't work, try setting your Wine configuration to Windows XP. Merry Christmas! EDIT: I guess the ...

C&C Generals Reports a DirectX 8.1 Error as of Wine 7.01
I recently wiped my hard drive and installed Mint 21 OS onto it. When I installed Wine 7.01 and placed Command and Conquer Generals original, the game installed by putting data files from both CDs 1 and 2 and ran the installer. No problems there. When it is time to run Generals, the game keeps repor...

Re: Error message when trying to install WineHQ on Linux Mint 21.1
UPDATE: It seems that going back to Linux Mint 21 is the way to go.
They still need to take the 21.1 back to the drawing board.
Go with Mint 21, folks; problem solved.

Error message when trying to install WineHQ on Linux Mint 21.1
I just added Linux Mint 21.1 and, after following the instructions, the command prompt craps out and says this: winehq-stable : Depends: wine-stable (= 7.0.1~jammy-1) Yes, I did try to fix the broken packages by entering both apt-get install -f and apt-get install --fix-broken Should I just revert t...

Yes, and this is embarrassing. Now I know that it's not WineHQ's problem, but mines. I'm sorry I trouble you, I will go away and not be a bother. I also contacted the tech helpers from the official Linux Mint forum and the guy lost his mind and went medieval on me. I found this out after doing a apt...

New Linux Mint updates try to delete Wine
I am using Linux Mint 20.3 with Wine 7.0. stable.
The last time I ran a cumulative update for Linux Mint, one of them tries to delete the wine-stable and winehq-stable updates.
I am now scared to run any updates.
What should I do?

Is it safe to delete .wine in root and in a home folder?
It's not that I don't need anything in those folders, it's more that I have no intentions to run anything in those folders. I have made a Wine Prefix directory running 32-bit games and I intend to use only that for now. Is it safe to delete the .wine folder in those two aforementioned (see topic) di...

The retail versions of Age of Empires II can see games made by other players, but cannot join them.
When another player makes a game, the entry is shown on the screen of the Wine version of Age of Empires II, be it original or expansion, but it cannot join. The OS is Linux Mint 20.3, the Wine version is 7.0 Stable, and winetricks directplay was made, but the game cannot be joined. Would this be a ...

If I was to unzip files, say dlls, do I have to specify the WINEPREFIX directory at the shell to do it, or can I just pick the directory in the file viewer to do that?

Re: Tracking commands made by winetricks
I downloaded all the files required in a virtual machine version of the same GNU/Linux distribution, copied all the files needed into the host machine's cache directory, and winetricks still attempts to download the files. What have I done wrong? EDIT: Just realised that it's trying to downloaded fi...

Tracking commands made by winetricks
As a matter of preference, I don't want to have to stay online to install file libraries before installing a game. In most cases, winetricks is always required to do that, and I'm hoping that the second, third, and fourth times around, that I can do it manually, however foolish it sounds. Is there a...

Is there a possibility that a bug from the development version to make its way to the stable version?
The bug, a development one that was born from regression, can it slither its way into the stable version?
If so, what are the chances?
A little jumpy, I am.

Thank you for the answer, jkfloris. Preferred Version of Wine to Use When Coming for Help
Which Wine version do I need to use before I get help here, Stable, Development, or Staging?
In the Bugzilla portion, I need to use Development, which is why I ask.
Thanks!
