Re: I am confused between x86 and x64
4. winecfg -> Desktop Integration -> MIME types -> Disable "Manage file associations" Sorry but I have to bump this thread up. Disabling Manage file associations in wincfg does not work. Files which have MIME type of application/x-ms-dos-executable are stilled handled by Wine Windows Prog...

Re: Change WINEPREFIX variable when double clicking .exe fil
Thanks a lot. After further reading and investigating, it turns out that .bashrc is included in interactive non-login shells only. To ensure the variable is exported during login shells, together with its subshells, .profile is the way to go.

Change WINEPREFIX variable when double clicking .exe file
I create a ~/.wine_x86 wineprefix and exported WINEPREFIX from from ~/.bashrc to point to that directory. I am pretty new to the concept of login/non-login shell, interactive/non-interactive shell, but from what I've studied so far, scripts inside ~/.bashrc are executed on non-login session and will...

Re: I am confused between x86 and x64
@jkfloris, Cybermax Thank you guys a lot. Looks like I need to invest some time on bash scripting before trying to edit the .bashrc file. Um, I still don't understand if I install a program inside a 32-bit Wineprepix (~/.wine32), while having a 64-bit Wineprefix (~/.wine by default), which prefix wo...

I am confused between x86 and x64
Hello, I've been trying my luck with my programs. Even simplest ones like messaging crash a lot. :( However, I still seek some more clarifications before trying again. Wine itself has an x64 version. But what is the purpose of this line anyway: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 The manual and FAQs t...

Re: Newbie's here. Some questions regarding general Wine usa
Thanks a lot for your clarifications. If a program installs a service which launches during Windows startup, will it auto-start after the host system reboots? No, it will autostart whenever you run anything in that wineprefix. So, when the host system turns off, all wineserver instances are killed. ...

Newbie's here. Some questions regarding general Wine usage.
I'm new to Wine in general. Before using anything, I always walkthrough the User Guide and FAQs, but still have some questions to ask. It makes sure I know what I am doing, before actually start. :) Do specialized applications such as hacks, cracks, overlay, hardware info viewers, system monitor... ...

Re: What is the compatibility status of Windows itself?
Lol I know it would stop and throw an error at some point. This question was for fun, because I couldn't get the logic behind that.

What is the compatibility status of Windows itself?
Wine allows user to choose the version of Windows on which their software will run. Assume that I chose Windows 7 environment, insert/mount Windows 10 DVD, then run setup.exe. Will I get Windows 10 after the installation completed?
