Install shield error 5006 : 0x8000ffff

Post by Bazzaah »

Hi

I am running Arch x64.

I have installed Il2-1946which works perfectly. There are some mods I would like to add but cannot install.

When I run 'wine setup.exe' for the mod installer I get the error messages below and a dialogue box telling me that I have the error I reference in the title field.

All I've seen so far is that I should delete the installshield professional folder which doesn't work.

Any help to sort this out would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Use 32-bit Wine version.

Thanks.

Is that a specific issue for Installshield as I have two other 32 bit games that are working fine?

Is there a bug report open for that? I can't install my Titan Quest game, but I don't want to switch to 32bit only wine and the workarroud is too time consuming (create new wine prefix, use 32bit only wine, install all my other stuff, switch to 64 bit)

Try running the installer with WINEARCH=win32. You'll have to use a separate wineprefix.

Yea, but then the application will be installed in the separate wineprefix and it wouldn't run if not installed... I'd have to keep that second wineprefix just for Titan Quest.

Untidy and unellegant, that's all. (:
Also it "should" work with combined 32/64bit installation.

Personally, I think cramming everything into one wineprefix is untidy and inelegant.

So file a bug if one hasn't already been filed.

Instead of inelegant, one could argue that using a Wineprefix is unwieldy; you'd become unable to install and run the software from any graphical file browser, and you'd have to type in more in the terminal.

While the Wineprefix is useful, perhaps some effort should go into Wine having a system that allows you to set a default prefix or change prefixes per application run, like in Winecfg.

I filed a bug with Arch but it worked fine for the guy looking at it so it's not a bug for everyone.

I tried all the fixes in the Winewiki Installshield but none work.

It works with Mandriva and I'll try another distro to see how that goes.

I'm not sure that it is even a wine bug as I could install with Installshield in Mandriva.

I'll probably just do a 32 bit chroot.

Here's a bug report. Voting would be appreciated.
@dimesion
WINEARCH=win32 doesn't work with multilib wine.
