Do yall think that Dungeons and Dragons Online could be ran

Post by justinsn95 »

Do yall think that Dungeons and Dragons Online could be ran with wine? I downloaded the installer, or rather, I downloaded the downloader. It is a 1.7Mb .exe file. But when I try to open it with wine, nothing happens. You just get the little "please wait" cursor, and then nothing. Can anyone else give it a go? If you could just get the little downloader to work that might be all I need. Oh and I am using Ubuntu 10.04.

Try running from the terminal and post output here.

Follow the instructions in the AppDB. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=2910

I'm sorry sir but I'm such a linux noob, that all this looks like greek to me. I'm afraid that I suck at the terminal.

Ok from what I can understand, that article tells you that you need to get the installer and run it with wine. I tried that, and nothing ever happened. Just the "please wait" cursor, then nothing.

Or, you can also get the main program file from your windows install. Which I did. None of the .exe's or launchers will start from that, either. Same thing, you just get the "please wait" cursor, and then nothing ever happens. I simply can't get past the very first phase of running this with wine. Anyone have any ideas? Again I'm using 10.04 64 bit.

The instructions are very specific about which installer:
*note* As of the time of this writing, the installer that you would normally download from ddo.com fails in Wine. Unless you're installing the game in Windows, you need to use the links provided on this site (in the application info, labeled "Free Download") in order to install the game in linux.
And after that:
Next thing you need to do is install PyLotRO
with very detailed instructions for installing PyLotRO and all its dependencies.

Did you do all that?

That's why the instructions are there. From here on the only thing you have to do is give "cd" the right path to your application - and that's not something specific to terminals.

Sorry I guess I'm just bling. I got the PyLotRO working. I didn't know how to make the native linux version work, but I got the .exe and it worked beautifully in wine. (wish everything worked as well lol)

So I have that as a standalone program that I can open any time I please. However, I'm not sure if I'm just blind, but I can't find the part where you said to "use the links provided on this site (in the application info, labeled "Free Download" I looked all over that page and I can't see the link to the correct download. Again my apologies if I am just blind, but could someone perhaps post a link to the correct download? I think that with yall's help I can do this. I would like to learn wine very well so that I can try to game on this PC without having to use Windoze.

They are on the Sept. 11 2009 version page, on the left. There are links for a High-Res installer and a Standard Resolution installer. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=17785

All right guys, I finally learned just a little bit about the terminal. Try as I might, I could not get the launcher for DDO to run, just by going into the program files and trying to right click on it and run it with wine. It would try to start, but I'd get the old: Please wait, then nothing happens. So, I followed the advice of another thread and tried the terminal. Here was the output of the terminal. As you can see, I tried a few things but nothing worked. I couldn't get into the final directory that I needed to be in. It was the folder named "Dungeons & Dragons Online - Stormreach". I even copied and pasted the ls output, and it wouldn't recognize what itself came up with lol. Anyway, here it is:

justin@justin-desktop:~$ cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files$ ls
Common Files Internet Explorer PyLotRO Turbine
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files$ cd Turbine
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$ cd Dungeons & Dragons Online Stormreach
[1] 6886
bash: cd: Dungeons: No such file or directory
Dragons: command not found
[1]+ Exit 1 cd Dungeons
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$ Dungeons & Dragons Online-Stormreach
[1] 7111
Dragons: command not found
Dungeons: command not found
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$ ls
Dungeons & Dragons Online - Stormreach
[1]+ Exit 127 Dungeons
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$ Dungeons & Dragons Online - Stormreach
[1] 7224
Dragons: command not found
Dungeons: command not found
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$ dndclient.exe
dndclient.exe: command not found
[1]+ Exit 127 Dungeons
[1]+ Exit 127 Dungeons
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$

So since I couldn't change the directory so that I could be inside the right folder, I tried copying and pasting the "dndlauncher.exe" into the folder that I could get into, which was the last one, called "Turbine". Then I got this:

justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$ ls *.exe
dndlauncher.exe
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$ wine dndlauncher.exe
install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
justin@justin-desktop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Turbine$

this is nothing to do with Wine... you just need to learn how to use the terminal correctly. It basically thinks the space is the end of the command and it doesn't understand your giving it a folder name... try using quotes.

cd "Dungeons & Dragons Online Stormreach"

or escaping the spaces so it knows thats an actual space and not the end of a command...

cd Dungeons\ &\ Dragons\ Online\ Stormreach

the best thing you can learn to use terminal fast is the Tab key... start typing and hit TAB and if only 1 thing fits what your typing, it'll finish it for you...

cd Dungeon <then press TAB and let it finish it for you>

Ok, your tab idea worked great. Thanks for all the help on this, I am learning so much just from these forums. So, I was able to enter the folder. Then, I did "ls" to see what all was in there. I found what I was looking for. A .exe called "dndlauncher.exe. So I did like the guide says and ran "wine dndlauncher.exe" and it waited a few seconds... and then a new little window popped up that was titled "Game Error [205]". The message inside said "The game client was passed invalid command-line parameters. [205]

A little confusing how that is worded, but I double checked and that is word for word.

You can't edit your posts for some reason so I just keep having to add new replies as I go along.

I guess that somehow... the program is installed. I don't know how, cause I never saw any kind of confirmation of this. But, when I open PyLotRO, and selected DDO as the game to try and launch, it successfully did so. I think. But, even though the game had launched, I got an error message saying I couldn't play because the game wasn't the latest version.

So now my question is this:

How can I manually update the game to be the latest version? There must be some way that I can get the correct files and put them in the right folder or something..

Ok, I saw one part of the guide that I missed. You have to download this one file, that doesn't come with the basic install, rename it, and put it in the proper folder. Only THEN can you actually update to be able to play the game.

But, I have more questions. Of course.

1. Once I play the game, when I quit, I have to restart the computer because my whole screen turns red. When I exit out of the game, I can barely ready anything at all. The whole screen is varying shades of red, and you can't read it. What can I do to stop this?
