Half Life 2 Games via Steam - Basic Questions

Post by mac666 »

Hey
Ive followed the instructions in the AppDB on how to setup team fortress 2, and after i did the preformence in menus improved, how ever i cannot still join any games.

After loading completty finnished, just to send of into In-Game mode, it crashes. No error messages and steam freezes...

I have Nvidia Geforce 9800GT with driver 190.32 and Wine 1.1.28 (1.1.29 messes up my steam menus)
I allso did install D3X9 Via winetricks, didnt help much
Half-Life 2 runns smoothly. Any ideas?

Does anyone know why Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2 et c doesnt come into fullscreen all times? Sometimes it does, sometimes it just centered on the screen. And does anyone know of their HL2 et c supports 1680x1050 resolution? My doesnt...

You should also do this:
- Disable in-game steam community (steam options)
- Set "hl2.exe"'s windows version to windows 98 (via winecfg)
- Make sure your sound is working properly (Valve's games crash if there is no sound card available)

team fortress 2 still crashes... :/
I dont think its a problem with sound, it works great in HL2....
how ever, i cannot select any sound driver else then ALSA.... and i have hardware acceleration set to Emulate...

Could that be a problem? Becouse if i dont have Emulate, the sound lags... And i cant select OGG...

Have you killed/removed/disabled pulseaudio? It's a plague that kills Wine's (and lots of other program's) sound.

That's not enough. See sticky post, use google to search for how to properly stop it.

Update:
After some usage of different wine apps, suddenly the audiodriver of my computer died, and then Team Fortress 2 worked kinda, no GUI (Neither background in startmenu of Team Fortress 2 or ingame GUI)
After reboot it doesnt work, again...

Last time i started, i used :
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Steam && WINEDEBUG=-all wine steam -applaunch 440

to start TF2 , could that be why it didnt work?
Thanks

Nope, that looks fine. You can try adding " -dxlevel 81" to the end of it. But if you did everything I said before dunno what else can it be.
