I have a Canon Pixma MP250 Printer. Tried the Linux drivers and still can't get an ink reading on it. I have tried every single program I can find, from InkBlot to the Canon software that comes with the Linux drivers and none of them will read this silly printer.

I didn't have a problem with it under Windows, but am having serious issues with the "genuine" stuff in it so was forced to switch to Linux.

I tried running the printer software under Wine but now it refuses to recognize the printer at all. Any suggestions? I have read up on making symbolic links to my lp0 port and modifying the config files for Wine, but nothing is working. :(

I uninstalled Wine 1.3 through muon, then installed 1.5 and now nothing works at all. :(

What did I do wrong and how do I fix it?

Windows drivers do not work under wine. You will need to get the
printer working in linux using linux drivers.

Run the applications from the linux terminal and see what debug
messages are generated.

http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

If you can not figure out open 1 thread per application and place the
debug logs on pastebin.com posting a link to the pastebin here.

Well, I appreciate the fact that printing simply does not work under Wine just yet. I can accept that. I can even try to find a work around to that flaw. However, I can't find much information about this blasted printer and it's ink levels under linux. It's almost like it's a entirely proprietized software function that Canon just won't release to the Open Source world. :(

I can print under Linux and I can scan under Linux, but not the ink levels.

Again, thank you for your help. Problem resolved... for now. ;)

Found a copy of turboprint and it reads the whole printer beautifully. Just wish it didn't cost now. ;)

Get your Linux drivers fixed. I have mx310 which works fine and worked fine for several years now.

Wine does not support any hardware drivers not now not in a new future.
