DVDFab not working anymore

Post by rumpumpel1 »

I used DVDFab-8.0.2.2 with wine and ubuntu 10.04 for quite some time and everything worked pretty well. After doing a fresh install of ubuntu 10.10 DVDFab didn't recognize my BD-ROM drive anymore.
In Ubuntu 10.04 I had to wait until the linux autorun had finished and then DVDFab started to check the disc. With Ubuntu 10.10 the linux autorun finishes but DVDFab does nothing.
I also upgraded to wine-1.3.5. But still the same result.
Did I miss anything ? Do I have to configure wine so that it recognizes my BD-ROM ?

Is it mapped as a drive in winecfg?

I configured manually in dosdevices the following entry: d: -> /dev/sr0
but it didn't help.

this is the workaround I found: after inserting the disc and waiting until linx autorun has finished I create a link in dosdevices:
ln -sf /media/TITLE_OF_DISC d\:

It's not really nice because for every disc I have to change the link
but it works.

Wrong, d: have to point to a mount directory. d:: should point to the device.
That's why you should use winecfg.

That means you HAL (dbus) is not working properly or you haven't installed it's 32-bit libraries for Wine to use.

that's what I tried (see my post above).
I had in dosdevices the following link:
d: -> /dev/sr0

I also tried d: -> /dev/cdrom

Both don't work. It worked this way in ubuntu 10.04 but not
with the newer wine version in ubuntu 10.10.

Reread what vitamin told you about pointing to the device vs. pointing to the mount point.

And you never answered my question about winecfg.

Run this and check that Wine successfully communicates with HAL:

Code: Select all

WINEDEBUG=+mountmgr wine notepad

While running Wine put a disk in and mount it. If you don't see anything - your Wine can't communicate to HAL.

Before installaing ubuntu 10.10 I changed the SATA operation mode in the BIOS of the mainboard from IDE to AHCI.
Could this be the reason for all this trouble ?
