Wine 1.2 + Kernel 2.6.34.2 + nVidia 256.44 + WoW = Crash!

Post by ThomasLocke »

The above mentioned combination results in WoW/Wine crashing my computer completely. It freezes completely. No mouse, no keyboard. It just sits there. I can though login via SSH from another computer, and the load is then sitting at 14-15 (using top), which is a bit high. :)

The only way to get it back in normal shape, is a hard reboot. Click the powerbutton for 4 seconds, and hope for the best.

While logged in via SSH I get these messages on a regular basis:

Code: Select all

thomas kernel: Stack:

I've no clue what it means.

When I revert to nVidia driver 256.35 everything appears to be back to normal.

It doesn't matter whether I start the game using OpenGL or D3D. The same thing happens.

I'm running Slackware 13.1.

This is very bad. This means that something in Linux crashed. I don't
know and at this point it might be a good idea to ask questions on your
Linux distro's forums.

I've just reverted to the older Nvidia 256.35 module, and the problem is now gone.

You could generate a bug report using the nvidia-bug-report.sh script and post it on http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14 to make the next release better.
