Im using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS i386.
A clean 32 bit wine prefix.
I have uninstalled mono.
This is the first thing im installing in wine.
If you can help me (and im sure many future google searchers) I would be very grateful.
Wine is by far one of the best pieces of software I have ever used, It would be great to get dotnet40 running in it!

Use winetricks to install it. It needs to be to a clean wineprefix.

If it were a clean wineprefix, you would not be getting that error message.

I don't doubt you're getting it. My point is that message means your wineprefix is not clean, regardless of what you think.

Delete the wineprefix and start over. Make sure you have the latest versions of Wine and winetricks.
