Mapsource several problems, can't write gpx files, open file

Hello,
Versions installed:
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Wine 1.4-0ubuntu4.1 Mapsource 6.16.3
Two Issues:
I can't open files using the MENU --> File --> Open Popup : Error Access to unkwnon Filetype denied , I tried types .GPX, GDP . No difference if I type <directory/filename> or select it. It only works if I select a file from the 'recent file list'. If I enter the file with REGEDIT into the <RecentFile> entries it works also fine.
Files of course are present and correct. WINECFG is checked
Any ideas? Is there any way to debug the file access in the moment it's done?

Saving files in <GPX> format makes MAPSOURCE crash sometimes , mostly. Saving in GDP Format worlks always.

I deinstalled/installed Wine / Mapsource multiple times. No result.
I'm not a Linux specialist!

Your Wine version is old and no longer supported. Start by upgrading to the latest development release, and if the problem persists, post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

Wine is now installed version: wine 1:1.7.16-0ubuntu1
Mapssouce was not deinstalled.
Nothing changed:
Log.txt says only: < wine: cannot find L"C:\\windows\\system32\\MapSource.exe"> ??
Program is and was executed (running correctly) by terminal comand from ...wine/drive_c/MapSource/mapsource.exe
I created a trace but this is 68MB large.
Additional info:
mapsource has several Menu entries eg to set Defauilt directories: all Popup windows to search for File Directories: All these Popups don't work correctly . I can select Directories by doubleclick but the result is never what i selected: Eg Select /Home/username/download ends in Z: .
WINECFG was done and for me everything was fine

Try reinstalling to a clean wineprefix. If it still doesn't work, post ordinary terminal output (no debug channels), including the exact command used to run the app.
