Installing Wine on Debian - how to do it?

Post by albertalves »

I've been trying to install wine in debian to no avail so far. I've scoured the internet for information and i've yet to find a solution. could some of the experienced users of this programme give me a step by step guide to installing wine on debian? any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

1. Download the .deb packages you need.
2. Install them with dpkg.
3. If dpkg complains about missing dependencies, install them with apt-get or aptitude.

Dpkg, apt-get, and aptitude are all Debian package managers. If you need further help learning how to use them, ask on the Debian forum. It's not a Wine question.

One thing I will add is that you didn't mention what version of Debian you are using. Those packages are only for Debian Sid. If you are using any other version, you will need to build Wine yourself.
