Wine is installed but it does not run .exe files

Post by MacLinDroid »

I have Linux Mint 15 Olivia 32-BIT with Cinnamon desktop.

Wine is installed and I could not get it to run or install Windows programs. Irfanview being one of them.

I even installed PlayOnLinux on top and that did not cure the problem.

I have been in IT for 30+ years and usually never give up, but here I am at a loss.

PlayOnLinux is not supported here. This forum is for plain Wine only.

Check the AppDB for specific tweaks your apps might need. Irfanview needs mfc42. http://appdb.winehq.org/

You didn't mention what Wine version you're using. If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. If the problem persists, post terminal output from one of the apps.

There never was any terminal output.............just no response. However, I did get it to run today and installed Essential PIM Free, which also opens and runs but cannot connect to the internet.

I will be looking into the AppDB now, meanwhile here is what EssentialPIM reports:

As I have stated before: when Wine did not work, there was NO output, no action, just a PC that did not give any hint of a response. Now that it is running but apps are not running right, Wine still gives no output, other than the message I have posted previously.
