Windows minimize to desktop, installs hang
I've used Wine1.4 with Ubutnu 10 - 13 (now 13.10 with GNOME Classic) for several years. Installed Photoshop 7 without a problem. Recently tried to install a portion of Adobe CS4 but the program never quite worked right. Now, none of the wine program work correctly. I have done a "sudo apt-get purge wine1.4" and then re-installed using 1.6 but still same problem. When trying to install new programs, I get an install shield window, then a full-size windows will open for that program and then begin terms, name, etc. prompts. Usually after entering my name, I click on next and the prompt window disappears but install does not continue. If I minimize the large window it minimizes to an icon on the desktop ut doesn't loose focus. I can more the icon around with my cursor, open other windows from the taskbar, but the icon always remains in the foreground. In some programs I can't type until I close the hung install program. Any ideas??

Try a clean wineprefix. Make sure it's 32 bit.
