Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
If it's from the Ubuntu PPA, it's the Ubuntu package. The Debian packages are in a completely different repository.Vaxxipooh wrote: I installed from the updater i have the ubuntu wine ppa - i need the ubuntu package how do i see what package is debian or ubuntu ?
Did you update anything else on your system around the same time you updated Wine?i have wine 1.7.14 before and that worked flawlessy and now with wine 1.7.15 it says something about "cant initlaze D3D" or something like that

Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
There's nothing in the console output related to graphics.
Try reinstalling your graphics driver (make sure you have the needed 32 bit parts) and a clean wineprefix. If it still fails, run a regression test. http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting

Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
No i give up on this, i just installed linux 16 Mint 64bit KDE on my wifes computer and there is no errors with wine 1.7.15 there - i guess some of my troubles depends on i installed Xorg-edgers ppa - i'll wait until i uprade my machine to the Linux Mint LTS version - until then i relay on wine 1.6 that works good for me . .. .

You can mark this as "solved" if you want, its not solved nut i dont care anymore (my best guess is the Xorg-edgers ppa screved things up)

Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
Last night I tried to play on Steam, and the problem is the same. Just tried to run Dragon Age 2 (that's outside Steam) and got the same message: Can't detect video card.
Wine 1.7.15 is broken. At least, under Ubuntu (12.04, 64 bits). Not that the bits really matter, since my prefix is 32 bits. And yes, the games worked fine with 1.7.10 (the one I had installed before updating). I usually don't update Wine too much because it tends to break down once in a while, but I run an auto upgrade yesterday and screwed up. Now, there are only 2 options regarding this issue: uninstalling Wine, destroy everything and reinstall all over again with a previous version (or the current 1.6), or play the games I have on Steam that run directly on Linux, and wait till 1.7.16 (or perhaps 17) come out and hope it solves the issue.
The first one is REALLY slow and annoying, so I choose the second.
Oh, and by the way, my graphics card is working fine (I have no issues in any other matter, but when trying to use Wine related stuff).

Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
Yes its maybe soo that the Wine 1.7.15 is broken in some way or just dont work on older installs like 12.04 / 12.10 - it works om my wifes freshly installed Linux Mint 16 Petra(64bit) which is based on Ubuntu Saucy . . .marianojoey wrote: Wine 1.7.15 is broken. If you really think it's Wine's fault, run a regression test. http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTestingmarianojoey wrote: Wine 1.7.15 is broken.

Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
... If it were only one person complaining, yes, it's that person's fault to not be able to use the program. And if you have a lot of changes in your pc, then you can say that it's probably not Wine that failed. But you don't have one person complaining, and in my case (that I'm not even complaining, just saying what happened to me), everything was the same, except Wine, so... if I change one factor in the equation, and the equation brakes, the factor did it. As simple as that. And Ubuntu 12.04 isn't yet 2 years old, and you have to take into account it's a LTS version, so if Wine just don't work with it anymore... it's not my fault either (specially when in the download page it says it's for it too...). Also, I don't need to make a regresion (which happens to be as painfull as redoing everything again), I can keep playing with over a dozen of my games directly from Steam under Linux, and wait for the next version of Wine to solve this issue (not like I'll die for not playing a couple more games over a week or two).
If anyone feels personally bad because I just say that this version is broken, sorry, but it's what happened to me (and others apparently).

Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
The point of running a regression test is to identify the patch that caused the problem, so it can be fixed. Doing nothing and hoping it gets fixed by accident is not the most effective strategy.
Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
The problem here is that I'm interested.
Its wery strange couse i have wine 1.7.14 before and that worked flawlessy and now with wine 1.7.15 it says something about "cant initlaze D3D" or something like that.
A night day.

Re: Installed wine 1.7.15 today AND NO games work (3D error)
If this is still an issue for you all in 1.7.16, someone needs to run a regression test and file a bug.
