I'm trying to run Fallout: NV through Steam on Wine. it installed, but whenever I click play, an error comes up that says, "FalloutNVLauncher.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close"
other info that may be relevant:
I mounted a second hard drive the the "D:\" drive so I'll have more room. I installed Portal on this drive and I can play that game just fine this way.
I'm still kinda new to all of this, so what do I do to find the problem and fix it? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times already. I only seem to have a problem with this game, but I've only tried a few different ones.

Wine version? If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. If it doesn't work in the latest development release, post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

Re: problems running Fallout NV Xubuntu 11.1
it took me a bit to get back to this
so... I updated wine, and now when I open steam, there's no text on any of the buttons! umm... what happened here, and how do I fix it? (I imagine I need to fix this before I can figure out what is wrong with Fallout)

This should fix the missing text on wine:
wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Steam/Steam.exe -no-dwrite
wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files\ \(x86\)/Steam/Steam.exe -no-dwrite
