If your sound suddenly stopped working in 1.3.25:

1. In 1.3.25, make sure you only have one sound device selected in winecfg (bug 27883). This bug is already fixed in git, and should not affect later releases.

2. Make sure mmdevapi.dll is enabled in winecfg. Disabling it was previously recommended as a workaround for sound problems in many games, but it is no longer needed and in current Wine will prevent sound from working.

3. If neither of the above solves your problem, follow the instructions in http://wiki.winehq.org/Sound for further troubleshooting tips and instructions on when and how to file bugs.

Note to PulseAudio users: The unofficial "winepulse" driver that some distros include in their packages is not a part of plain Wine and is not supported here.

Update for PulseAudio users: many of the problems with PA and Wine have been caused by bugs in PA and/or alsa-plugin. Some of these bugs have been fixed in the latest versions of PA (1.1) and Alsa (1.0.25). If you are using older versions of those packages, upgrade.
